Need something to do later???

Check out these rainy day  activities to help improve speech and language!

Rainy Day Speech Activities

I SPY- Take turns with your child describing a variety of objects in your home. Prompt the child to describe the object's function, category, parts, and distinctive features. Then describe an object to your child and have them guess what it is. This activity helps a child’s defining and describing skills as well as map new vocabulary!

Hide and Seek Articulation- If your child is working on a specific sound, place flashcards around your house with a target word they need to practice. Once the child searches and finds the flash card, have them sound out the word using their sound! If they can’t read just yet, use pictures instead! This activity helps practice articulation skills as well as identifying pictures.

Label emotions in pictures/books/tv- Not all children understand emotions naturally. There are many ways to practice labeling emotions with your child. When your child is feeling a particular emotion you can talk about it. When your child is happy and excited, talk about it. When something has made them sad, talk about that as well. Demonstrate what those emotions look like through facial expressions and body language. Having children learn emotions and express them can help with frustration and breakdowns.

Have fun!!!!
